Flat/no step jaws, also known as soft jaws, can be machined to the shape of the part. They are made of soft materials such as aluminum or mild steel.
Hard jaws are made of a case hardened steel and are stepped with gripping faces for securing the work during a machining operation.
Alloy steel is the strongest of all steel types. It has high tensile strength and offers excellent resistance to wear, fatigue and galling.
Moveable vise jaw bodies are non-stationary and are actuated by the vise lead screw.
